What can I do if ADE Tells Me that the Arial Narrow Bold Font is Missing?

Arial Narrow Bold is the font used by ADE to display runway numbers.  Some versions of Windows in some countries do not ship with this font.  It it cannot be found then the message below is displayed.

NOTE:  Current versions of ADE have the font embedded so you should not see this error.  If you do then please consider updating to the current version.

This won't stop ADE but it is not a good thing since it will stop runway numbers being displayed.   The missing font can be hard to find on the internet but, thanks to Peter Broomfield, there is a ready made and easily available copy of this font.

Find the Arial Narrow Bold Font

Find the Arial Narrow Bold Font
  1. Navigate to the installation folder of you sim - any version will do including P3D v1 and V2
  2. Open the Fonts Folder
  3. Find arialnb.tff
  4. Double Click it

Windows Font View

Windows Font View

Click the Install Button

Right Click to Open the Windows Font Viewer

Right Click to Open the Windows Font Viewer

If you have more than one application on your computer then double clicking the font may not open the Windows Font Viewer.  If that happens to you:

  1. Single select the Font and Right Click
  2. Click Open With
  3. and select Windows Font Viewer

Check ADE

Start ADE again and you should not see the message.  If you do then try closing and re-starting your computer.
