How do I Add a Background Polygon to an Airport?

This applies to FSX and P3D only.  Airport background polys are used to flatten the airport area, mask land class and exclude autogen

Select Add Polygon Mode

Click the Polygon Tool button to put ADE in Polygon drawing mode

Select Add Polygon Mode

Draw the Polygon

  1. Use the mouse cursor and buttons to draw the polygon to the desired shape.  Remember to double click for the last placed point to complete and close the shape.
Draw the Polygon

Set the Polygon Properties

When the property dialog opens:

  1. Select Airport Background as the Type
  2. Select Flatten Mask Class Map ExcludeAutogen as the Tag
  3. The altitude is set to the airport reference altitude so leave that alone
  4. Click OK to save the properties
Set the Polygon Properties

The ability to select multiple items at once for group modification would be sweet. But love your program!

Jon Masterson

Thanks for your message. You can modify groups of parking spots or groups of taxi links at the moment but not anything else. It is on the list to add a better multi edit capability

Hello,

Works fine but how may I display this background polygon after it has been created (if I want to modify the airport ). It is visible when I create it and works fine in the sim but cannot view it if opening again the airport with ADE (Sure I make something wrong :))

You need to work from the ADE project file. Don't load back Bgl files created by ADE and work on them. Only load your work from the project file.

Thanks a lot (for the answer and for this ADE version working perfectly for me).

How I change the color this polygon with transparency?

Daniel Rodriguez

so i have the latest version of the program , but when i draw a polygon and then i finish with the double click , it doesnt have those options :Tag or Type . what could it be ?

Jon Masterson

Because these features are not available in ADE for FS9. Only for FSX and later

Is it possible to smoothing the edges of the ground polys?

Jon Masterson

I am not sure what you mean but the best place to get help for this will be on the support forum at www.fsdeveloper.com

Istvan Lantos

Thank You, I will look after it.

The original ground poly texture merging edges are more smooth, when for example I creating one in ADE.

Barry Jaques

Using V 00.00.5899 for FS9 I create the polygon and choose any fill texture from the list but in sim it is just white so the texture color is missing.

Jon Masterson

I do not recognize that version number. I have sent you an email

Barry Jaques

My mistake.
Version number is App: 01.66.5555.24351
Engine: 04.67.5554.26231

I can cover that poly with objects to hide it but would be nice if it could just be a dark color.

Barry Jaques

My big mistake, I forgot to include the bmp file in the texture folder.I was just loading the scenery produced by ADE into existing scenery folder. Sorry but all is good.
