How do I Create a Sloped Background Polygon

Airport background polygons are set flat by default but they can be set to allow each vertex to have its own altitude thus creating a sloped polygon

Open the properties of an airport background poly

Open the properties of an airport background poly

Create or open an airport background polygon

  1. Check the box to Edit Individual Points (Vertex)
  2. Make sure that it is an airport background poly
  3. Choose a type of airport background poly that flattens
  4. Click OK to save the changes

Edit a vertex

Edit a vertex

Select the vertex you want to edit and hit the Enter Key.  The Altitude box (which is read only without the Edit Individual Points checked) can be edited.  So change this to the new altitude and Click OK

Check the altitude of the vertex

Check the altitude of the vertex

This vertex now has its own altitude

Creating the slope

Make sure that you change each vertex to be the altitude you want.  If you are creating more complex slopes then the most common method is to use a series of triangular polys.  How to do this is outside the scope of this article
