How do I Change the Airport Name or Altitude? (1.65)

This feature replaces the existing Change Airport Altitude function.  It is not possible to change the name or altitude of an airport via the normal addon scenery bgl file.  Unlike all the other changes you might make the airport identification and altitude properties are read from the first file loaded rather than the last.  So to get a change to be remembered we need to create a small Bgl file (often called a  stub or pre-load file) that contains this information and is stored in ..\Scenery\World\scenery.  This ensures that the pre-load file is read before any other files including the stock files.

Non stock airport

If the airport project is for a non stock airport you don't need to create a stub file.  You can just change the information here or in the airport properties.

If you don't make any changes

If you don't make any changes

If you don't make any changes then ADE will warn you.  If you do proceed then nothing is changed of course but if you did mean to change something then click Cancel to return to the dialog

If you change the altitude

If you change the altitude

ADE provides this warning if you change the altitude.

Once the changes are made and the airport is compiled you will see your updated in the airport list.  In this case I added a state to this airport

Airport properties

ADE now longer allows you to edit the identification properties for stock airports in the airport properties window.  This is simply because changes made here are not honored.  However if you use the Change Airport Reference Data feature then these will be updated

For non stock airports you can edit these values and the changes will be honored.
